MMOG Assessment - Eve Online

Massively Multiplayer Online Games serve as arenas for social interaction for over 10 million people. Virtual worlds such as these function as both simplified models of real-world events and as venues for new types of game specific actions. Importantly, games record these interactions and thus provide useful methods with which to assess the strength of social ties between players. In CASOS we are examining the social networks in EVE Online, a sci-fi game and detailed economic simulation, in order to determine the dimension of the 'social universe' and its relation to other such universes, both within and without game environments.

At the CASOS Summer Institute, CASOS Ph.D. students have the chance to display and discuss their projects and work, including work on Eve Online. The 2008 CASOS Summer Institute poster for Eve Online is:

"Social Networks in Online Games: How they work and what they tell us"
